In Luke 4:14-30 we find that Jesus addresses the idea of racism by pointing the people in the synagogue to the Old Testament story of Elijah’s encounter with a widow of Zarephath in the land of Sidon instead of the needy widows in Israel. He does this to show the people that God does not discriminate based on race or on anything else. The gospel of Jesus Christ puts all people on the same level, and it is only through understanding and applying the gospel that we can truly deal with the racism that exists within our hearts.
