Jesus made many controversial, sometime confusing, and often challenging statements. One such statement was recorded by John the Apostle who wrote in John 14:12 “The person who trusts me will not only do what I’m doing but even greater things…”—Jesus of Nazareth Jesus always points out the true heart of God our Father in His teachings. Obviously God intends that those of us who say we “trust in Jesus” would do greater things than Jesus did. What a mind blowing Kingdom concept! Paul takes up this theme when he writes to the church in Ephesus; saying, “For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Again, it is obvious, our Good and Beautiful God has plans for every one of His children to do great and marvelous things while left here on earth. Jesse Reeves, one of the most successful Christian songwriters of our generation, writing, How Great is Our God, heard these words at his ordination service. Pastor Neil McClendon said “Jesse, you’re a song writer and God has used you in amazing ways. But if all you do with the rest of your life is write a few songs, you’ve committed a huge spiritual fumble. I believe you might stand before the Lord one day and hear the words ‘too small’. God wants more for your life. God wants a greater priesthood for you than just to write a few songs.” At first that may sound harsh, but Pastor Neil wasn’t diminishing the work Jesse had done for the Lord. What he was saying is that Jesse isn’t just a songwriter. As a follower of Christ he is a hell overcomer. God wants more for him. As we begin this series, the elders and leaders of this church want for you what God wants for you. It is not what God wants from you, but what God wants for you. What HE wants for you is more. Too many of us run the risk of living out those words ‘too small’. God wants more for us. More looks like… Not being a person that just confesses Jesus is the Christ and Son of the Living God, but somebody whose identity is found in that truth. Not being just a church attender, but somebody who realizes they arethe church. Not being a person who doesn’t just believe in the doctrine of hell, but realizes and believes they are a hell overcomer and that your calling in life is to kick down the gates of hell! We want to see God make this transition in our church. We want to see you transition from just confessing Jesus is the Christ, attending church and believing in hell to defining your identity in Him, being the church and living your life knowing you’re a hell overcomer. This can happen! But, only to the extent to which you discover your God given S.H.A.P.E. and then live from those strengths your Father has already built into your life. Let’s take the next 4 weeks and S.H.A.P.E. Up together!
