In this sermon we continue to build on a commitment we made to God back in 2010. In that season of ministry the Lord called out to us with this phrase “DEEPER & GREATER”. HE challenged us as a church with the following: “In order to have a greater impact in this community and the world, you will need to go deeper in your relationship with ME, deeper in your understanding of ‘the Faith’, and deeper into biblical community with one another.” That is what we heard from HIM in 2010 and we responded by choosing to change. We heard God call us to go deeper in our teaching on Sunday mornings which would require giving more time to the teaching of HIS Word. So we increased our worship service times from 60 to 75 minutes. Out of this journey into DEEPER & GREATER God gave us Vision 2020 and refreshed our purpose statement to: RIVERBLUFF CHURCH EXISTS TO MAKE DISCIPLES, WHO MAKE DISCIPLES, WHO CHANGE THE WORLD. So in this sermon we begin a verse-by-verse study of the book of Colossians that will take us through most of Fall. On this journey we’ll see how our view of Jesus Christ impacts every area of life, every day of life. Far too often we approach God’s Word only for practical instruction and help for living, kind of like shopping in the self-help section of a bookstore. We avoid deep topics such as doctrine and theology because they seem to be out of touch with our day-to-day reality. Paul’s, God-inspired view, was radically different. He understood the practical (negative) implications of trying to live from a “partial-gospel”. He saw how confusion, surrounding the truth about Jesus, kept believers from living in the full freedom Christ bought for us through His death, burial, and resurrection. That same confusion is rampant in the “cultural-christianity” of our day. We study Colossians to go deeper that we might live greater and impact greater!
